Pokemon Concept #5 - Vertigoat and Spiralex

Hi there, Noir here! So this is a little awkward, but after a week of deliberation with friends and family I can't quite finalize the design for the water starter yet. So in the meantime, I drew a different Pokemon to fill in the gap of content that would otherwise be here. I hope this will tide you over until then. As always, thanks for viewing my content!

DESIGN & CONCEPT
--------------------------

This Pokemon was largely inspired by mountain goats, specifically the ibex with its large curved horns. It is additionally based on deer, mostly the sika (Japanese) deer and the white stag of myth.

As for abstract themes, these Pokemon represent many aspects of the female workers in a castle, including ladies-in-waiting, priestesses, nurses, governesses, cooks, as well as bakers and pastry-makers. They also represent certain aspects of Japanese culture.

VERTIGOAT: The Pokemon is largely based on domesticated goats rather than wild mountain goats, which can be seen in its friendly nature. They make good pets with their loving nature and easy maintenance. However, this Pokemon not to be trifled with: if angered, it may run so quickly that it lifts off and starts spinning at an incredible speed. In this form, this Pokemon can drill through solid rock. For its design, this Pokemon's single horn is somewhat reminiscent of a unicorn's, as well as a spiral of icing. The 'streamers' coming out the top of its horn also resemble trails of icing coming out of piping bag. Its armor resembles pink icing sprinkled with powdered sugar, with the beige parts looking like the paper cups of a cupcake. In keeping with the design of its evolution, this Pokemon is supposed to resemble a busboy or a chef's aide, or even a choir child. Finally, its armor also resembles a jinbei, a traditional Japanese attire typically worn by babies, as well as men and women of all ages. Thematically, they represent cooks, priestesses and ladies-in-waiting, girls and women who assist the ladies of the castle go about their day.

SPIRALEX: This Pokemon is able to summon sandstorms by manipulating its fairy winds, shrouding itself as it charges with blinding speed towards its foes. Despite its docile appearance, it is highly territorial and will knock anything that doesn't belong off its mountain. Looking at it in the eye is taken as a challenge, which will spur it to attack. Hence, Spiralex is only admired from afar. Design-wise, this Pokemon's massive horns resemble spires of rock, or spirals of icing. Its cloak is also supposed to look like fondant icing, with a wavy line of pink icing across it. It may also represent the clergy (priests and priestesses) of the castle. It also looks like a Japanese miko, with its cloak looking like the white haori worn by these priestesses. The armor underneath its cloak also looks like a layer cake, as well as layers of sediment. Its 'gems' are designed to appear like jam-filled biscuits. In keeping with the castle/folklore theme of this region, this Pokemon's overall design is of a multitude of 'feminine' occupations including the governess, the high priestess, the nurse, the royal chef and the patissier.

These Pokemon are exclusively female. Their male counterparts are Bullder and Mountaur, respectively.

Vertigoat comes from the words 'vertigo,' a feeling of whirling and imbalance (usually associated with looking down from great heights) and 'goat.'

Spiralex is a combination of 'spiral,' a winding shape that tapers or widens to one end, 'spire,' a tapering cone usually associated with church steeples, 'helix,' a winding shape that remains the same width, and 'ibex', a species of mountain goat found in the Alpine regions of Europe.

EVOLUTION METHOD

Vertigoat is the unevolved form of this evolution line.

Spiralex evolves from Vertigoat beginning at Lv 43 if at least three other female Pokemon are present in a full party of six.
